This page contains information about the DCA's review of statutory prohibitions on disclosure of information. It contains links to the report of the review, and to orders which amend the prohibitions concerned.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, the Secretary of State has a power to repeal or amend any provision in an Act or secondary legislation which is capable of
stopping information being
disclosed
in response to a request under the Freedom of Information Act.
We have reviewed a large number of these provisions, and have published a report of the review.
The report commits the government to making Orders to repeal or amend some of these prohibitions.
The first order to be made under this section, affecting thirteen pieces of legislation, came into force on 1 January 2005.
